WE BELIEVE every person has the right to defend himself, his family, and his country. To that end we teach the best defense is no defense. It is better to avoid any potentially threatening confrontation rather than force a situation that could compromise an individuals safety. The techniques learned in class are not to be used to assault others just because you can. However, in the event a confrontation arises and escape is not possible, we believe that an individual should be equipped with all necessary tools to effectively defend himself to the point of neutralizing all danger of further harm. Understanding that a simple self-defense technique may not effectively stop an attacker leads us to teach what to do in the event we are aggressively attacked. WE BELIEVE every person should have respect for himself and his peers. Every student of Kajukenbo is to be aware of all his surroundings and do everything within his power to ensure his safety and the safety of others. Poor attitudes are left at the door when we enter the class; they will be there when we leave. There is no room for superiority complexes; no room for mindlessness; no room for inconsiderate actions. Students of rank carry the responsibility to mentor students of lessor rank and not to bully or show off. WE BELIEVE every student of the martial arts should respect the systemits heritage, its techniques, its history. Many techniques in Kajukenbo grew out of real life experiences of its founders. We believe students should know the history of our art and what makes us unique. Our system carries a unique distinctive in that some of its original founders still live including Sijo Adriano D. Emperado. WE BELIEVE the martial art is a treasure to keep in your pockets, not a prize to display. |
